On my Facebook author’s page, I have been writing about my Christmas memories. I decided to share one with you. When I was a teenager, I was permitted to join my mother’s other women relatives in making homemade Christmas ornaments to exchange with the other women. With quite a few creative and artistic women in the family it was a joy to receive these ornaments. I am posting a few below. One poignant memory is the last summer before my mother got sick with brain cancer. She and I made corn husk doll ornaments. As you can see in one of the pictures, I still have them, 36 years later. I cherish the memories each year I add them to my tree. Please share one of your cherished Christmas Memories.

My kids (and I’m sure your kids, too) made ornaments in school when they were in grade school. One of my favorites is the one my youngest daughter made when she was in first grade. While everyone else made stars from popsicle sticks that intersected in the middle, she shaped her popsicle sticks into the Star of David. She had no idea she’d done it; she just liked the shape. So we represent two faiths on our Christmas tree every year 🙂

Our tree is a catalog of what we have done in the past years and I have done this for my now grown children, too. We give them an ornament every year that reflects something they have done or places they have gone. We started this tradition for our granddaughter. She is two months old and just received her first ornament!
